The Grounds Management Association (GMA) plays a vital role in helping grassroots clubs improve and maintain high-quality playing surfaces. Through its partnership with the Football Foundation, the GMA provides expert advice, training, and resources that support clubs in achieving and sustaining the ‘Good’ pitch standard. Clubs can access funding for machinery, drainage, and maintenance through the Football Foundation—but must first complete a PitchPower assessment, which is reviewed by GMA specialists. To unlock funding, clubs are also encouraged to complete the GMA’s Level 1 Football Grounds Maintenance course, ensuring volunteers have the skills to manage pitches effectively. This joined-up approach helps clubs create safe, playable environments, reduce cancellations, and support long-term sustainability.
